The certificate will have the individuals full name and will state the province the JHSC certification is valid for. Our certificates do not have a expiry date, however, it is recommended to re-certify your members every 2 years for good due diligence practices. Do all JHSC members need to be trained and certified? Yes, all members of your joint health and safety committee, in any province, need to go through some form of training. It will make little sense to train only a few members and leave the other members without any form of training. When all members are properly trained, the effectiveness of your committee and the positive outcomes of each meeting will increase ten fold. Is your JHSC course recognized with goverment authorities? Yes, Absolutely. Not only is our 8 hour joint health and safety committee training course recognized with WorkSafeBC BC British Columbia government authorities. Also, our 8 hour joint health and safety committee training course meets and exceeds all WorkSafeBC OHS regulation requirements for JHSC's in BC British Columbia. How do I know if my business requires a joint health and safety committee? If your workplace has 20 or more workers overall within your business, you need a joint health and safety committee. This includes any workplace where there are 20 or more workers employed at the workplace for longer than a month. Goverment Safety Officers may also order that a joint committee be established in any other workplace or even if you have less than 20 workers. How many joint health and safety committee members in BC do I need on my committee? A JHSC joint health and safety committee in BC must have at least four members, and at least half of the members must be worker representatives. For the purpose of a joint committee, a worker representative must be someone who does not exercise managerial functions. Managerial functions generally relate to the overall direction at the workplace and may include disciplining workers and representing management in labour relations matters. A government safety officer may require you to have more than 4 members on your committee depending on the size of your business, number of employees, number of departments, number of locations and hazard rating. We recommend you have at least 6 members on your committee as a minimum (2 management reps, 4 employee reps). 1 management rep and the other 1 employee rep can be trained as alternates. This provides a tremendous level of due diligence which is required to ensure that reasonable precautions are taken for the safety and health of the learner. What if I fail or don't do well on the exam? A mark of 80% must be achieved on each exam in order to receive a certificate of completion.
