Workplace safety inspections are an opportunity to identify hazards and assess risk in your workplace on an ongoing basis. As part of a proactive injury-prevention process, inspections reveal the current state of your workplace and any activities that you can see. Workplace inspections can help you identify hazards and prevent unsafe working conditions from developing. There are different ways to approach workplace safety inspections in BC. Looking at the components of your health and safety program will help. For example, you can focus on the most common tasks your workers perform or on specific issues addressed by your health and safety program, such as material handling, confined space entry, or workplace violence. You may wish to break up the work site into specific segments with focused checklists to look at specific safety hazards and activities in each area.

In BC, employers are required to carry out regular workplace safety inspections of their places of employment to ensure the safety of their employees. An inspection is a planned walk through of a workplace or work site designed to help the workplace meet compliance with the OHSR & WCA legislations (WorkSafeBC). Our online workplace inspections course will educate participants and OHS Safety Committee members on how to effectively conduct a workplace safety inspection, record keeping, due diligence, rating hazards, assessing risks and how to conduct follow-up.
