Lead is a highly toxic material that can cause severe neurological disorders and cancer. Lead is often found in the renovation, demolition, manufacturing, and recycling industries. One of the best ways to protect workers against lead exposure is to practice good hygiene at work. Silica is one of the most common hazards on a work site, particularly in the construction, oil and gas, manufacturing, and agriculture industries. Silica dust can cause silicosis, a serious and irreversible lung disease. It can also cause lung cancer. Cutting, breaking, crushing, drilling, grinding, or blasting concrete or stone releases the dust. As workers breathe in the dust the silica settles in their lungs. Our online silica & lead awareness training courses teaches participants how to identify locations where silica and lead may be present and find sections of the silica & lead regulations which deal with the classification of silica and lead work in BC.
